Donald Sterling is simply a high profile example of the racism that continues to be a constant undercurrent in our country. Many people claim it is isolated, but it is everywhere. One really does not have to search for it. For years, I have read what people write on walls, in the subway, in the toilet, in telephone booths (few are left now) and on the streets. Recurring themes over the past 35 years are, “____ was here,” ranting against a specific person or society, the word fuck, misogyny in one form or another and racism, with Black people as the overwhelming target.
This is my latest encounter in a New York City PATH stop.
