I attended part three of a four part panel series organized by Drone Free St. Louis. This event explored various concerns and implications of domestic drone use by the St. Louis Police Department, with donuts!
The panel zeroed in on how militarized policing and surveillance, and the new technology of drones, impacts communities of color, as well as immigration concerns. Moderated by Montague Simmons, panelist seated are Faizan Syed from the Muslim community, Freddy Chavez talked about drones on the border, Romona Taylor Williams spoke about surveillance in the 21st ward, and John Chasnoff discussed hot-spot policing and the fallacies of “objective”, data-driven policing.
